The Trail In-Hand and the Lunging portions of the show will be held on an "open card" which means you will drop-in to these events when you get a chance.  To keep everything organized, please sign up for a time slot on the board.  If there is a conflict between an open-card class and an arena class, please do the arena class, and make your way to your open card class as soon as possible.  Please notify us if this is the case!!

***LINKS AND UPDATES***

Maturity and Futurity...Check out these great links to articles on starting your horse on the lungeline (again, all trainers have some different ideas, but we're all about trying new things to find out what works for us!!)...

Beginning the Lunging Process

(This one has some advanced techniques too, but the "correct procedure for lunging" section has some great basic tips!)

Articles below relate to the last couple of meetings, and some new stuff to come!

Horse Psychology

(a great article for all tournament participants regarding the basics in how horses tick!)

Even More Horse Psychology

(a little bit of the same from above, but still helpful

Resistance, Acceptance, Compliance and Commitment

(This article is by Ray Lacroix, an arabian trainer who runs a very successful Amateur program in the States. Even though most of his examples are to do with riding, they can easily be translated to ground work as well. You will see me refer to his teachings again many times in the future (especially in the Maturity!))

Here are some neat articles about horse communication and round pen work ... Author Josh Nichol was at the Horse Breeders and Owners Conference this year and offers clinics throughout Alberta!
